I am completing my PhD in the Department of Mathematics at UC Berkeley. My interests lie in probability theory, statistical inference, and their applications to biology. I am advised by Professor Steven Evans.
My research centers on combinatorial stochastic processes and their applications to phylogenetics. I develop new algorithms for species-tree inference and establish their statistical guarantees. This work has also led me into nearby areas including Doob–Martin boundaries, graphons, sequential sampling and e-processes, and mathematical finance.
Before Berkeley, I studied mathematics and applied computational mathematical sciences at the University of Washington. Through the Undergraduate Training Program in Computational Neuroscience, I worked with Professor Eric Shea-Brown to study how recurrent neural networks can extract latent variables underlying predictive learning tasks.
Outside mathematics, I enjoy biking through San Francisco, reading nonfiction, and climbing at the many excellent crags around the Bay Area.
